Where does it teach in the Bible that Jesus and God are one?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I like the idea of a loving Jesus, but I am completely against a judgmental God, and Christianity teaches that Jesus and God are one. I certainly cannot find any such claim in the Bible. – O.O.

A: Not only did Jesus claim to be God, He also claimed to have the power of God. He said He has the authority to judge the nations. He claims the authority to raise people from the dead. He claims the power to forgive sins. He claimed, “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30, NKJV). He said, “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him” (John 10:37-38, NKJV).

And that’s not all; Jesus said He has the power to answer prayers (see John 14:13-14) and that He will be with His followers always (see Matthew 28:20). Jesus has done all of this.

Jesus’ incarnation – God invading human history with His presence in the form of man – is on the record. Every time we write the date, we attest to the fact that God entered human history. Only because Jesus is God and we have confessed Him as Savior and Lord, can He bestow – and we receive – these benefits, this blessed assurance and hope (see Romans 10:9).

Until the Good News of Jesus Christ burst onto the human scene, a loving God reaching down to sinful humans was unthinkable.

But only those who by faith in the words and works of Jesus Christ belong to Him. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1, 14, NKJV).
